Anas ibn Mālik lived long enough to see the generation that came after the Prophet ﷺ. And he said a thing to them that ought to stop anyone who believes he has a reasonable sense of proportion:
Read it once more, and then place yourself upon the timeline.
Anas is speaking to the generation that came immediately after the Companions — men and women who prayed, who fasted, who walked the streets of Madinah within living memory of revelation. Among the most religious human beings who have ever drawn breath. And what he observes is that their weighing had failed, not their practice. Their sense of what a thing weighs.
