In The Gaze and the Feed
Jarīr ibn ʿAbdullāh asked about the glance that merely happens — the one that arrives ahead of any choosing:
There is a mercy inside that answer, and we walk past it almost every time.
He was not told that the glance was a sin. He was told what to do next. Read the instruction again and notice where the weight of it falls — not on the arriving, but on the turning away. Jarīr was not being corrected for having eyes. He was being given something to do with them.
